Hello, I’m Donovan Stewart, Knoxville’s family chiropractor. I would like to take this opportunity to tell you more about myself. While I was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, I consider myself a Fountain City – Knoxville native that was just born somewhere else. I went to Brickey Primary in Powell and then to Gresham and Central High School here in Fountain City. I then attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville as a biology major. I worked my way through school at a pharmacy for several years and then started making pizza. I make an excellent pizza. Then my education got serious, as I was accepted to Northwestern College of Chiropractic in Minnesota. For four and a half years I was back in the “Great White North”. My wife simply measured the time as “four winters”. I moved back to the warmth of Tennessee after graduating with a DC degree (Doctor of Chiropractic) and began practice – that was in 1986. Since then I have been serving families in East Tennessee and Kentucky. I have been blessed with a wonderful family including my wife, Pam, and my two beautiful daughters, Kelsey and Alyssa. One of my hobbies is guitar making, but don’t get me started on that…
My vision in practice has evolved over the past 30 years moving from the management of pain towards family wellness and maximized potential. I want my practice members to realize that health and wellness are more than just not being in pain.
The nervous system controls the function of every cell, organ and tissue of the body, and chiropractors help optimize the function of the nervous system. In fact, even though we exercise regularly and eat right, the single most important thing my family does to stay healthy is to make sure every cell of our bodies has the best chance of functioning at 100% through weekly chiropractic checkups. I want my patients to understand that no drug…no doctor…has the power to heal. Medications may make a symptom go away, or replace it with a side effect that seems more tolerable than the original complaint. The only thing that has ever healed you or anyone else is the incredible healing power inside your body…we were born with this “innate intelligence”…our children were born knowing how to heal themselves. Chiropractic’s role is to locate and remove any interference to your body’s innate healing ability, allowing the body to function as it was designed to do. It just makes sense…and no shots!
I believe that a doctor should sit down with a prospective patient and determine whether he or she is a candidate for care. We want to find out more about you…your history…your health goals…to teach you what we do and how we go about it. I want the opportunity to check you personally before I tell you whether or not I feel I can help you. Any and all fees are explained up-front, and if I don’t honestly believe I can help, I’ll tell you that, too.
Since “doctor” actually means “teacher”, I also spend a great deal of time and energy to keep our patients up-to-date with the latest in health and wellness information. For example, I conduct a free one-hour class at least every other week entitled, “Exploring Human Potential”. Please feel free to call our office and reserve a seat, or to ask any questions you may have. What you don’t know CAN hurt you!
Yours in Health,
Donovan Stewart, D.C.
